Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Squelch the Weasel" is a psychedelic folk song in the key of E minor.

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween. "Squelch the Weasel" is one of several songs on GodWeenSatan to feature no bass or drums.

"Squelch the Weasel" appears on the Big Timmy Wasserman demo tape. When introducing the song on the GodWeenSatan tour, Gene Ween described it as being "about God."

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

The song was played live as early as 1989, and has been played moderately often ever since.[1] Two live recordings have been officially released: from 7/7/2000 on the album Live at Stubb's, 7/2000, and from the 9/14/2001 anniversary show on the album GodWeenSatan: Live. In addition, Gene Ween has been known to play the song at solo acoustic performances.[2]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Official lyrics, handwritten by Dean Ween, were printed in the GodWeenSatan liner notes:

Squelch the little weasel
Crush him before he spawns
Break it to me gently
But with merriment and song

Squelch the little weasel
Juice him as he bleeds
Feed him to the many
For thoust their souls shall weep

Sipping of the sun ray
Blading in the earth
Evolving was the nectar
Given to the weasel birth

I was just a puppet
Until the clouds caved in
Bless me now, you are sacred
My flesh betwixt my skin[3]
