Live Performances[edit | edit source]
The recording of "Mushroom Festival in Hell" on Paintin' the Town Brown may be the earliest known live performance if Gener's spoken date of 1991 in the intro is correct. The song was played only a small number of times in the early 90s as a standalone song, and then abandoned after 1994. Starting in the year 2000, the song was reintroduced and has remained an occasional live inclusion ever since, now almost always coupled with "Licking the Palm for Guava".[1] The performance at the 9/14/2001 anniversary show has been officially released on the GodWeenSatan: Live album.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Official lyrics, handwritten by Dean Ween, were printed in the GodWeenSatan liner notes:
The wind is howling and the time is right for fear
In the emergence in the phosphorescent (tears) fears[2]
And all the hippies gonna lick the mind of God?
They've already been immersed in the wad
The wind is howling and the sea is boiling down!
The mind is the water! The mind is the water!
'Cuz it's a mushroom festival in hell[3]
