Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"I Gots a Weasel" is a rock song with elements of blues rock and rockabilly. The verse riff is in a bluesy variant of G major, while the chorus riff consists of the chords C7, G7, F#7 and B7.

The lead vocals are performed by Gene Ween, with Dean Ween providing the "response" at the end of each line of the verse. Like most of the songs on GodWeenSatan, the drums are played by Dean Ween and the bass is played by Andrew Weiss.

Alternate Versions[edit | edit source]

An early version of "I Gots a Weasel" was released on the 1988 Wad Excerpts.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

"I Gots a Weasel" is known to have been played live as early as 1989. However, for years it was never more than an occasional inclusion in live sets. Following the 2016 reunion, it has been played much more frequently.[1]

A recording from the 9/14/2001 anniversary show was released on the album GodWeenSatan: Live.

Video[edit | edit source]

The band created a homemade video for this song in 1989, which Deaner posted on his Youtube channel in 2006.[2] In the beginning of the video, Gener quotes the spoken intro from the song "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Official lyrics, handwritten by Dean Ween, were printed in the GodWeenSatan liner notes:

I got a weasel
It's a teazel
Mah pleazel
Mah pleazel
Got a weasel[3]
