Prince
Prince was a musician who is a major influence on Ween. His career spanned five decades, from the 1970s to the 2010s, and his musical output was highly eclectic, spanning the genres of rock, pop, funk, R&B, and more.
Gene[1] and Dean Ween[2] have both been open about Prince's influence on the band, with Deaner once stating Prince was a "world-class shredder" and "a true artist in the ultimate sense".
Gener was the one who introduced Deaner to Prince, whom Deaner had previously thought to be "a big fag".[3] By the time of Prince's 2016 death, Deaner stated he bought his records "the day they came out" and that he had seen over fifty Prince shows. Deaner also once relayed an anecdote that when he and Gener visited Paisley Park at the age of 18, they sneaked into Prince's Studio A and saw a collection of his guitars and a set of handwritten Prince lyrics before getting kicked out.[2]
Quotes[edit | edit source]
- Dean Ween on Prince being his favorite guitarist:
[...] by far, hands down the greatest living guitarist in any genre - Prince Rogers Nelson. Prince does so many things well that it’s easy to forget that he is also a world class shredder.
