"Shamemaker" is a song by Ween from the 2007 album La Cucaracha.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

"Shamemaker" is a song in the key of C major.

The lead vocals are sung (in an exaggerated Philadelphia accent[1]) by Gene Ween, who said in a 2007 interview that the lyrics were "a culmination of things I’ve learned from my therapist over the last few years".[2]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween debuted "Shamemaker" live in the fall of 2007 on the La Cucaracha tour, and continued to play it with decreasing frequency over the next few years. In February 2022[3], they played the song live for the first time since 2011, and have continued to play it occasionally since.[4]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

When I feel ashamed
I get so scared
It makes me wanna hurt you
Shamemaker

My body aches
And I feel alone
I'm in a very defensive place
Shamemaker

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Feel the feeling, oh
Process feelings
Feel it in the belly like a yellow worm with teeth

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Bring it down, don't think too much
Feel the feeling
Let it have its way till it says goodbye

(Go!)

I need to breathe
Just need to breathe
Don't walk away
Shamemaker

Touch me
You need to touch me
But I'm afraid
Shamemaker

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Feel the feeling, oh
Process feelings
Feel it in the belly like a yellow worm with teeth

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Bring it down, don't think too much
Feel the feeling
Let it have its way till it says goodbye
Let it have its way till it says goodbye
Let it go
Shamemaker[5]
