"The Chancy Boys" is a demo song by Ween.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

"The Chancy Boys" was written together by Gene and Dean Ween; at a solo show in 2010, Gene said, "Here's a song that I wrote with Deaner — it hasn't made it to a record."[1]

Although "The Chancy Boys" dates back to 2008 and was originally written as a Ween song, it is often more associated with Gene Ween's solo career. Gene played "The Chancy Boys" live numerous times from 2008-2012, both with the Gene Ween Band and solo acoustic.[2]

A studio recording of Chancy Boys played by Ween was posted on Jan 30, 2024 by "Ween Archived" for hitting 5,000 subscribers, and is widely circulated.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

There were six-and-a-half with thirty strikes in all
Side by side
They called them the Chancy Boys

Tom was the first in a line, he was burning from within
Steel eyes of time
He was begging to be reborn

His father was the son of a man who could slice a [bit o' dumb???]
Tom shed the blood of him
For pennies and a trusty blade

Ol' Jerry, the dancing boy, a Chancy brother was he
Danced like a fairy queen
He'd kill a man for a price

Good times we're livin' in
These are the good times
Time waits for no one
And right now it's my time

John was a flash in the pan, a scholar for his age
Dressed in the finest tweed
A Chancy in his prime

Sweet Kay, the beggar's wife, had a postcard sent from France
Jerry passed away
Left Kay with a burden fair

The Boys met that night at the home where his father's son was born
Fire the Foster round
Twas another Chancy down

Good times we're livin' in
These are the good times
Time waits for no one
And right now it's my time[4]
