Song Details[edit | edit source]

Although recorded as a Ween demo while the band was still together, "Hawakawani Say" is often more associated with Gene Ween's solo career. The song dates back at least to the spring of 2009, when Gene took the song on tour with the Gene Ween Band. He also played it live a number of times during solo acoustic shows in 2011.[1]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Hawakawani say
I got no yams today, I'm watching the children play

The lava rolled and boiled
The lava oozed and oiled, he's planting the seed of yam

Hawakawani
Hawakawani

He fleshed the tree bare
He plucked the coco hair, watching the ocean rise

A golden yam he grows
Our mama Hannah glows, as she boils the flesh of yam

Hawakawani
Hawakawani
