Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Who Say You" is a folk blues song in the key of E major.
Although recorded as a Ween demo while the band was still together, "Who Say You" is often more associated with the solo career of Gene Ween, who probably recorded the song without Dean Ween's involvement, as he posted it to his personal Soundcloud account in 2013[1], and it was exclusively played by the Gene Ween Band live.[2]
Live Performances[edit | edit source]
Ween has never played "Who Say You" live. However, it was a frequent inclusion in the 2009 Gene Ween Band shows.[3]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Who say you?
The gardener, the barbecue man
Who say you?
The skull-faced desert drifter
Have a smoke for me
‘Cause my baby’s a two time lover
Who told you?
The artist or the producer?
Who told you?
Was it the man with the pretty eyes?
Have a laugh on me
‘Cause you’re all just a bunch of jokers
I was born here, and this is where I’ll die
With my poodle and gun
And helicopters humming above me
Gee, man, what do you know?
You turned into your father
The girl you’re living for
Young enough to be your daughter
Kiss her on the lips
Let that make you stronger
I was born here, and this is where I’ll die
With my poodle and gun
And helicopters humming above me
Who say you?
The gardener, the barbecue man
Who say you?
The skull-faced desert drifter
Have a smoke for me
‘Cause my baby’s a two time lover [4]
