Recording and Composition

"Dirty Money" is in the key of D minor, though the demo present on the Chocolate and Cheese deluxe edition is pitch-shifted down to C# minor.

The song was first officially released as a single on iTunes in 2005. This version can be considered a Shinola outtake. The Shinola outtake may have been recorded sometime during the Chocolate and Cheese sessions, and touched up during sessions for the 2005 odds-and-ends compilation Shinola, Vol. 1.

The lead vocal is sung by Gene Ween.

Live Performances

"Dirty Money" was written as early as the spring of 1994, when it was played live twice early in the Chocolate and Cheese tour. The 1994 performances would be the only times Ween would play the song live before bringing it back into live rotation in 2023.[1]
