Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"I'm Gay" is in the key of F major. The opening drum hits are borrowed from "I'm Fat", which was recorded during the same session.

The song was recorded in 1993 during the Chocolate & Cheese sessions, and features Guy Heller on vocals. The song was mixed for the album[1], but was ultimately excluded. The rough mix of the song is often mislabeled as a Moistboyz rarity.

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Mary Ellen asked me to the Sadie Hawkins dance
But it grossed me out when I felt the trim of her girly underpants
She asked, "What's wrong?" so I chewed on my tongue and said, "I don't like this song"
But in my heart, I needed a man if I was to get it on

I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud

On Friday nights I like to go and hang out with the boys
They know the town and fool around and do the things that I enjoy
But when the nighttime lights are all shut down, I feel so all alone
I sure wish one of those big butch boys would sure take me home

I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud

My daddy brought me up to be a good ole country boy
But I didn't like the girl with the golden curls, and he got real annoyed
She's been knockin' on the door and callin' on the phone, "My boy, you're wastin' time"
So put on your coats and sow your oats and get the girl home by nine

I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud

When I hit the showers, I feel like a flower with the boys on the football team
All fun of dented buns and the haze of smelly, sweaty steam
When I tried to tell the coach, "I'm queer!", he fell to his knees and cried
Nobody wants to know the pretty little girl that I am deep inside

I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud

Well, now I'm grown, and I don't talk about my fancies anymore
I got a good wife and a normal life that greets me at the door
And if I told my friends what I was in the end, they'd stand and wonder why
Then they'd kick my ass and scream, "that little faggot's gotta die!"

I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud
I'm gay and I'm proud
I'm a homosexual, gotta scream it out loud

What've you got to say to me now?
Blow jobs are on the house tonight!
Somebody pass me a beer
I'm feelin' a little queer
Thank you, thank you very much
Good job!
