Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording & Composition[edit | edit source]

"Sweet Texas Fire" was first demoed on 4-track around spring 1992. It was then recorded during the first studio demo session for Chocolate and Cheese on June 5, 1992. This studio recording was mixed and included on the "Piss Up a Rope" vinyl single in November 1996.[1][2]

The 4-track demo was included on the Freedom and Ween In 1992 Work Master tapes, and the studio recording was included on the Lite And Easy and Ween In 1992 tapes. The former circulates as part of the Chocolate and Cheese Demos: Summer 1992 bootleg.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

"Sweet Texas Fire" was played live as early as the fall of 1992. Never a common live Ween song, performances of it have been sporadic over the years.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Way back in school they made jokes about you, baby
A bunch of little girls, oh yeah but you were such a lady
Staying out late, you went dancing every night
Cowboy boots and honky tonk and feelin' alright

Your boyfriend was twenty five, your pop called him a punk
Drinkin’ your drink and gettin' all drunk
Living in the fast lane, you're a bird up on the wire
Giving all the boys a taste of sweet Texas fire

Soon then split for beauty school, manicures and perms
Hangin' round your deadbeat town and tryin' to get a turn
Dreaming of the city, gonna model on TV
A Hollywood producer in a Benz 300E

Slinging hash at Denny's and making truckers hard
Your car is up on cinder blocks and sittin’ in the yard
Living in the fast lane, you're a bird up on the wire
Giving all the boys a taste of sweet Texas fire

Hitchin' up the highway when I saw you seeing me
Bumper sticker said "gas, ass or grass, but not for free" Them jeans that you were wearing, they fit you like a glove
Givin’ me the goosebumps at the thought of Texas love

Crankin' up your Skynyrd tape and screaming for your gas
That Southern girl's got something that I know will kick your ass
Living in the fast lane, you're a bird up on the wire
Giving all the boys a taste of sweet Texas fire[4]
