Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording & Composition[edit | edit source]

"I Don't Want to Leave You on the Farm" is a country pop song in the key of C major.

The song was written by Gene Ween about drummer Claude Coleman, who had to be apart from his girlfriend while on tour with Ween. Coleman has called it a "beautiful tune", and explained, "Aaron said he wrote that song about me. We left on a tour and I was miserable because I left my girlfriend back home, so he wrote that tune for me."[1]

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween. Producer Ben Vaughn stated that the lead guitar solo was played by Dean Ween.[2]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween debuted "I Don't Want to Leave You on the Farm" on the 1996 12 Golden Country Greats tour with the Shit Creek Boys, and played it a number of times on that tour. Since that tour, it has been played much less frequently, although Gene Ween has played it numerous times at solo acoustic shows.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna go
Oh, just so you know
I don't wanna leave you on the farm

Days go by and I'm still high
But you know I'm thinkin' about you
Corns turn brown, leaves fall to the ground
It's a sound that reminds me of you

I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna go
Oh, just so you know
I don't wanna leave you on the farm

No telephone to call you at home
I'm alone on the throne
Go get somethin', hey, thanks for nothin'
I'll keep truckin' and gettin' myself stoned

I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna leave you on the farm
I don't wanna go
Oh, just so you know
I don't wanna leave you on the farm

Days go by and I'm still high
But you know I'm thinkin' about you
Corns turn brown, leaves fall to the ground
It's a sound that sticks like glue
