"Candi" is a track by Ween from the 1994 album Chocolate and Cheese.

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Candi" is very loosely in the key of A major, though the only two instruments that follow any discernable melody is the bassline and a guitar riff at the end of the song.
The lead vocals in this song are performed by Mean Ween.[1] The screamed vocals in the background were recorded by Gene Ween, who was locked in the trunk of a car screaming into a cordless phone as Dean Ween did donuts in the snow-filled parking lot of the studio. Both of them were extremely drunk during this incident.[2] Aside from that, Gene later said that he had very little involvement in the actual recording process of "Candi", which was mostly recorded by Deaner with Mean Ween.[3]
In an interview, Dean Ween stated that Mean Ween came up with the lyric "chocolate with cheese," which inspired the album title. However, Gene Ween has said that he and Dean came up with the phrase while on tour in Europe, inspired by the fine chocolate and cheese products they encountered on that continent.[4]
Several people involved in the recording of Chocolate and Cheese have expressed their dislike for the song "Candi". Dean Ween himself has called it "the worst song that's on any Ween record." Claude Coleman has called the song "a big, runny diarrhea shit." Ween's manager at the time, Dave Ayers, said that the song "is only four minutes long, but it feels like nine." However, in contrast, Gene Ween has said he remembers "laughing my ass off" in the studio.[5]

There are only two known live performances of "Candi", from 1994 and 2019.[6]
