Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"The Concert is Over" is a soft jazz-rock song in the key of F major.

"The Concert is Over" was written during the creative process for Chocolate and Cheese, intended as a counterpart to the album-opening "Take Me Away", with Gene Ween doing a similar crooner-style voice, but with a slower feel to end the album. A studio recording was begun during the Chocolate and Cheese sessions but never finished. However, the song was played live on September 29th, 1993, and a demo version from the same year exists that first entered fan circulation in August 2024.

Live performances[edit | edit source]

After its debut, Ween continued to play the song live as a set closer a number of times, mostly on the Chocolate and Cheese tour.[1] They have not played it live since 2001.[2]

A soundboard recording from a February 8th, 1995 performance was included on Rotten Cheese.

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Over
The concert is over
the bouncers are sleepy
and the band is going home, going home

Over
The concert is over
Finish your drink, and I'll get you a cab and send you home

The hour's getting late, and your woman is waiting for you alone
She's all alone
So smoke that cigarette and be careful of the pigs while going home

Over
The concert is over
the bouncers are sleepy
and the band is going home, going home

Over
The concert is over
Finish your drink, and I'll get you a cab and send you home

The hour's getting late, and your woman is waiting for you alone
She's all alone
So smoke that cigarette and be careful of the pigs while going home
