Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Captain Fantasy" is a psychedelic glam/hard rock song in the key of C# major.

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween.

"Captain Fantasy" appears on the Bilboa demo tape.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

"Captain Fantasy" was performed live as early as December of 1990, nine months before the release of The Pod. Ever since, it has remained a commonly played song during every era of live Ween (although notably omitted from the 1996 country tour). A 12/9/1992 recording from the Pure Guava tour can be heard on the At the Cat's Cradle album; a much later 7/8/2000 recording from the White Pepper tour is on Live at Stubb's.

In addition, Gene Ween played it several times at solo acoustic shows in 2011.[1]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Please would you like to be

Somewhere floating free
Seems my destiny
Captain Fantasy
Take a bit and go down
Beneath the reaches of sound
You could be with me
Captain Fantasy
And when you're there I'm here
And when you're near I'm there
The only words of your life
Captain Fantasy
And when you're near I'm there
And when you're there I'm here
The only words of your life

Captain Fantasy
