Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and composition[edit | edit source]
"Dr. Rock" is a psychedelic hard rock song with glam and punk rock elements. It is in the key of B major.
The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween, along with Dean Ween on backing vocals, being the one yelling the title every on verse.
"Dr. Rock" appears on the Big Timmy Wasserman demo tape.
Live Performances[edit | edit source]
Despite being released on 1991's The Pod, "Dr. Rock" is not known to have ever been played live in the DAT-deck era. After its debut with the full band in late 1993, the song rapidly became one of Ween's most reliable concert staples, and has been played at over half of all Ween shows to date.[1] In addition, the Gene Ween Band played the song several times in 2015.[2]
Three live recordings of "Dr. Rock" have been officially released:
- 4/19/1995[3] (Chocolate and Cheese tour) - Paintin' the Town Brown
- 10/23/1996 (12 Golden Country Greats tour) - Live in Toronto Canada
- 11/7–9/2003 (Quebec tour) - Live in Chicago
