Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Pork Roll Egg and Cheese" is a psychedelic pop song with jangle pop elements. It is in the key of G major.
The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween.
Meaning[edit | edit source]
A pork roll, egg & cheese is a breakfast sandwich, similar to other common sandwiches such as the bacon, egg & cheese, but using pork roll as the meat. The song was written out of genuine affection for the regional food; Gener said in an interview that "it really doesn't get better" than a pork roll, egg & cheese on a Kaiser bun."[1]
Live Recordings[edit | edit source]
"Pork Roll Egg and Cheese" was played live as early as December 1990, nine months before its release on The Pod. Before long it became a very common live Ween song, and remained so in almost every era of Ween, with the notable exception of the 1996 country tour.[2] A recording from the Quebec tour on 11/8/2003 was officially released on the album Live in Chicago.
In addition, Gene Ween has commonly played "Pork Roll Egg and Cheese" at solo acoustic shows.[3]
