At the Cat's Cradle, 1992 is a live album by Ween, released on November 25, 2008 on Chocodog Records.

Description and History[edit | edit source]

The roughly 77-minute album is a complete recording of a single show from December 9, 1992 at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC during the Pure Guava tour. The performance is from the DAT-deck era of live Ween; meaning it is only Gene and Dean on stage with a pre-recorded backing track.

At the Cat's Cradle also came with a bonus DVD, including an additional roughly 50 minutes of video content excerpted from three other live performances from the era: 10/31/1991 at Vera in Groningen, Netherlands; 1/10/1992 at WTSR Radio in Trenton, NJ; and 3/6/1992 at Staches in Columbus, OH.

Upon its release, the band's website described the album as "so brown it's almost black".[1]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • Dean Ween, from the liner notes of the album:

Every night we had to face the crowd pretty much naked, there was nowhere to hide, no room for an off night. We did a lot of talking to the crowd and one another between songs — we pretty much had to. We faced a lot of hostile audiences when we were the opening act on a show. There was a lot to hate about us but we won over a lot of people in the process because of our sheer nerve. A lot of our closest friends feel that Ween live pretty much ended when we switched to a traditional band format with a bass player and drummer . . . Once we started releasing records and touring more as a duo we got a lot better at it, we stopped caring about what the audience thought of us and just focused on having fun onstage. This was when we maximized our brownness.
