"Boing" is a song by Ween from the 1991 album The Pod.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Boing" is a blues song with notable elements of psychedelic rock and folk. Due to tape speed manipulation, the studio version is in the key of E major, while live performances are transposed up to A major.

Alternate Versions[edit | edit source]

The version heard on the bootleg Big Timmy Wasserman Tape is the same recording used for the Pod album version.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

The quiet, subdued recording on The Pod is substantially different from the version played live, which has a more upbeat rock feel. Ween played "Boing" live in the early 90s, but after 1994 did not play the song until 2021, when they finally reintroduced it.[1] However, prior to that, Gene Ween had played the song several times at solo acoustic shows, as well as with the Gene Ween Band.[2]

A 10/31/91 live recording from The Pod tour was officially released on the bonus DVD to At the Cat's Cradle, 1992.

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

According to Dean Ween, the lyrics are as follows:

You know she's smooth as a poodle eatin' shit on a shingle at dawn
Rip-rip-rip Van Winkle eatin' shit on a shingle at dawn
Would you like to do a boing, boing boing? Boing?
She's a fun lovin' woman and I love to see her wiggle
She's a rooty toot cute with a piggy in the middle
Would you like to do a boing, boing, boing? Boing?[3]
