"Mononucleosis" is a song by Ween from the 1991 album The Pod.
Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Mononucleosis" is a psychedelic pop rock song with shoegazing and noise rock elements. It is in the key of C major, though the studio version is slightly detuned.
The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween.
Alternate Versions[edit | edit source]
The version on the Bilboa demo tape, "Mononucleosis Jam", is a slightly different recording as the one used on The Pod album, with an extra lyric that was removed on the album version.
Live Peformances[edit | edit source]
Despite being released on 1991's The Pod, the song is not known to have been played during the DAT-deck era. Ween introduced the song with the live band in 1994 on the Chocolate and Cheese tour, and for years afterward it received only the occasional performance. One such performance, from a 7/22/2003 live Internet stream, can be heard on the All Request Live album.
Gene Ween has played "Mononucleosis" several times at solo acoustic shows, and after the 2016 reunion Ween has played it more frequently.[1]
