Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Oh My Dear" is a psychedelic folk pop song with notable sunshine and twee pop elements. It is in the key of G major.
The song was written by Gene Ween, who also sings the lead vocals. The song is about his then-girlfriend Sarah, the subject of many Ween songs, who he would later marry from 1999–2003. This was the first song he wrote about her.[1]
Alternate Versions[edit | edit source]
The version that appears on the Bilboa demo tape is the same recording used on The Pod album, but the tape is not as sped up.
Live Performances[edit | edit source]
"Oh My Dear (Falling in Love)" has always been a very rare live Ween song, with only a small handful of total performances over the years. However, Gene Ween has played the song often at solo acoustic shows.[2]
Live performances are notable for usually having Gener play the guitar solo.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Tell me where you come from, was it heaven above?
Oh my dear, I must be falling in love
Can you climb the sunny peaks of a fortress in mud?
Oh my dear, I must be falling in love
Did I tell you I want more than what you're really made of?
Oh my dear, I must be falling in love
Can you scope a purple blunder and admit that you are young?
Oh my dear, I must be falling in love
