Song Details[edit | edit source]

Meaning[edit | edit source]

"Gravy fries" is a plate of fries smothered in brown gravy. According to Gene Ween, the dish is "guaranteed to coat the stomach rot from drinking the night before."[1]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Frank" is a psychedelic rock song with some funk rock influences. Due to tape speed manipulation, the studio version is in the key of F# major. For live performances it is transposed up to G major.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Despite being released on 1991's The Pod, "Frank" is not known to have ever been played live until the modern live lineup in 1997. However, immediately following its debut, it became a fairly common inclusion in live shows thereafter.[2] In addition, the Dean Ween Group played the song fairly commonly across 2018 and 2019. Before that, they had played the song a single time in 2015 during the Ween hiatus.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Frank, give me a pork roll egg and cheese
If you please, with some gravy fries
Sink into a greasy mega-weedge
And I sneezed and it blew my mind

Time, it's in the hand of God
Chew on turkey or some cod if you please
Frank, give me a pork roll egg and cheese
If you please, with some gravy fries
