"Awesome Sound" is a song by Ween from the 1991 album The Pod.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Awesome Sound" is an experimental hip hop song with prominent industrial influences. The melody is played on a heavily distorted guitar which, due to tape speed manipulation, is in the key of F minor. For live performances, the key is transposed up to D minor.

The lead vocals are sung by Dean Ween.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Despite appearing on 1991's The Pod, "Awesome Sound" is not known to have been played live in the DAT-deck era. It was first played live with the full band in 1995 on the Chocolate and Cheese tour. Since its premiere it has remained a fairly common live song in every era of Ween, with the notable exception of the 1996 country tour. Two live recordings have been officially released: a version from December 1997 is on Paintin' the Town Brown, and a version from 7/22/2003 is on All Request Live.[1]

In addition, Dean Ween has occasionally played it at solo shows, including once with the Dean Ween Group.[2]
