Little Birdy
"Little Birdy" is a song by Ween from the 1992 album Pure Guava.
Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Little Birdy" is an experimental psychedelic pop song in the key of C major, though due to light tape speed manipulation, it is tuned slightly higher. For live performances it is transposed to B major.
The vocals for the 1st verse are sung by Dean Ween. The vocals for the 2nd verse are sung by Mean Ween.[1] Gene Ween typically sings the song live.
Live Performances[edit | edit source]
"Little Birdy" was played most commonly for the several years following the release of the Pure Guava album version. However, the band never really stopped playing it, and it has been played at least a few times during most years of Ween.[2] A recording from the White Pepper tour on 7/8/2000 was officially released on the album Live at Stubb's. In addition, Gene Ween has played "Little Birdy" fairly often at solo acoustic shows.[3]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
The Pure Guava lyric sheet contains official lyrics in Dean Ween's handwriting:
Oh, little birdy
Oh, little birdy
I saw the little birdy sing
He sang with glee and everything
He sang for spring and he sang for me
And everything was so happy
I don't know why I want to fly
Try to sigh, make me fly, get me high
Then the little birdy starts to cry
So happy[4]
