Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Flies on My Dick" is an experimental rock song with light psychedelic rock and rap elements. Due to tape speed manipulation, the song is within the key of D major, with live performances transposing it up to E major.

Guy Heller is credited with vocals for "Flies on My Dick" in the Pure Guava liner notes.[1]

"Mick set up the crude machines, and we did "Loud and Proud." Then he hit me with a concept. "You should write a song about losers with no job, no food, waiting to masturbate to a Traci Lord's film, and a fly lands on your dick." How much worse could you possibly feel?" He went to take a shit, and by the time he came back, I wrote it. His eyes totally lit up reading it. "Dude! Awesome!". We went back to the machines and recorded it." - Guy Heller

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

"Flies on My Dick" was not played live until the Chocolate and Cheese tour, and to this day remains one of the rarest live Ween songs among their studio album tracks. It has not been played live since the Ween hiatus, though they performed a fragment of the song in 2022.[2]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

The Pure Guava lyric sheet contains official lyrics in Dean Ween's handwriting:

Oh sweet mindfuck lady
Please love me like u do
Plagued by an image of days long gone
Flies on my dick

Never sit alone on a hot, sticky noon
With flies on your dick
I'm just a boy with a gypsy nun
I love it when u stick me with your staff

Oh sweet mindfuck lady
Smashed with a nightmare
All alone
With flies on my dick

Have a beautiful pain
It always rains in your bed
When I'm wet with truth, I'll say it with sooth
I know what I must do
So afraid, know what I must do[3]
