Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Springtheme" is a psychedelic R&B song with strong psychedelic pop/soul influences. Due to heavy tape speed manipulation, the studio version is in the key of D# major, while live performances are transposed down to D major.

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween and are pitched up by speeding up the tape.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

For years after its release, "Springtheme" was barely ever played live, with the sole exception of a 1994 performance using a backing track rather than the live rhythm section.[1] Starting in 2000 on the White Pepper tour, "Springtheme" was properly introduced with the live band and has had somewhat regular performances ever since.[2] It was also commonly played by the Gene Ween Band in 2015 during the Ween hiatus.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

The Pure Guava lyric sheet contains official lyrics in Dean Ween's handwriting:

Good morning, my love
The skies are clearing up today
Can I kiss u on the boob
Like I did yesterday?

U let me in
U let me sin
U made me cry
U got me high

Can I touch u in the nude?
U lookin' really good in bed
How come we ain't talkin'
Like we was yesterday?

Wake up, little wakeup
Got somethin' [to][4] say
Don't move a muscle
I'm gettin' dressed and I can't stay[5]
