Song Details[edit | edit source]
Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Puerto Rican Power"'s two parts are defined by Part 1's subdued bass and drum machine instrumentation and Part 2's searing hard rock sound. Part 1 is loosely in the key of B minor, while Part 2 is in the key of E major.
The studio recording was recorded in 1991, appears on the Eravis demo tape, and as such can be considered a Pure Guava outtake. It consists of two parts and is labeled as such (Pts. 1 & 2) on the tracklist.
Live performances[edit | edit source]
"Puerto Rican Power" was played live as early as the summer of 1991, and has been a common live song ever since, across almost every era of Ween (with the notable exception of the 1996 country tour).[1] The part typically played live corresponds to the part labeled "Pt. 2" on the studio version.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
(Part 1)
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro
Puerto Rican power
Grandmaster of love
I respect my mother
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
Grandmaster of love
I respect my mother
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
The power of love
Puerto Rican power
The power of love
(Part 2)
Puerto Rican Power
Grandmaster of love
I respect my mother
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
The message of love
I own a Toyota
With mag wheels and gloves
And I respect Santana
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
The message of love
I know this Cuban
He thinks he's kind of tough
He tried to kiss my sister
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
The message of love
Love
Uno, dos, tres
Puerto Rican power
Grandfather of love
I respect my mother
And Jesus up above
Puerto Rican power
The power of love
Love, mang
