"It's Gonna Be a Long Night" is a song by Ween from the 2003 album Quebec.
Song Details[edit | edit source]
Although Dean Ween sings the Quebec album version, bassist Dave Dreiwitz sang the original demo version, and typically sings the song live as well. Deaner explained in the notes to The Caesar Demos:
Dave sings on [the demo version of] "It's Gonna Be a Long Night". This was days before he had surgery to remove polyps in his throat and his voice was really rough so we figured he was the guy for the job.[1]
On the Quebec album version, in addition to the vocals, Dean Ween plays all guitars, as well as the bass. The drums are played by Sim Cain of the Rollins Band. Glenn McClelland is credited with organ on the track.[2]
"It's Gonna Be a Long Night" was written as early as February of 2002, when it was played once live, a year and a half before the release of Quebec.[3] Much later, during the Quebec tour, Ween began incorporating the song into live shows on a sporadic basis.[4] Notably, the Dean Ween Group has played the song live much more frequently than Ween themselves.[5] Live performances with Dave Dreiwitz on vocals often change “coat” to “shoes”, along with “911” being substituted with “Donald Trump”
A year later, in 2004, the song was featured in Tony Hawk's Underground 2[6]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Official lyrics were printed in the liner notes of the Quebec album:
Heard that you are new in town
Someone said you party down
Well, later I'll be comin' 'round
We'll rack 'em up and suck 'em down
Don't call your mother
Don't call your priest
Don't call your doctor
Call the police
You bring the razor blade
I'll bring the speed
Take off your coat
It's gonna be a long night
There'll be no second chance for you
Tomorrow you'll be black and blue
Show your friends your new tattoo
911 won't help you, fool
You're gonna suffer
You're gonna bleed
I've heard it all before
You will concede
I'm takin' everything
You're goin' down
Lock up the doors
It's gonna be a long night
It's gonna be a long night
It's gonna be a catfight
It's gonna be a gang-bang[7]
