Dave Dreiwitz
Dave Dreiwitz has been the bassist for Ween since 1997, having played on all studio albums since White Pepper.
Dreiwitz is almost exclusively the group's bassist, though he sings lead vocals on the Caesar Demos version[1] and most live performances of "It's Gonna Be a Long Night", in addition to the occasional performance of "Ace of Spades". He has also played upright bass on at least one outtake. Outside of Ween, Dreiwitz also plays trumpet, flute, piano, theremin[2] and tuba.
Career[edit | edit source]
When Dreiwitz was 19, he became a founding member of the jangle pop/folk rock band Tiny Lights, for whom he played bass and trumpet and would play with the band until Milky Juicy in 1994.
In 1991, Dreiwitz formed the New Brunswick based punk rock duo Instant Death with drummer and vocalist Scott Byrne, with Dreiwitz providing bass and vocals. It would be through this band where Dreiwitz would get to know Ween, as Ween opened for them on August 6, 1994, and they opened for Ween on December 2 the same year.
Dreiwitz joined Ween in 1997 after Dean Ween had given him a call asking him if he wanted to play bass for the band. Dreiwitz accepted, and his first performance with the band was "The Golden Eel" on the Comedy Central show Viva Variety.[3]
In 2006, Dreiwitz formed Crescent Moon after Byrne's passing in 2005, with the band following a similar format to Instant Death's bass-and-drums setup.[4] The band is still active to this day.
After Ween initially broke up, Dreiwitz joined the Dean Ween Group, again on bass.
Musical equipment[edit | edit source]
While Dreiwitz has utilized a variety of basses for Ween, his most common ones are a Mapleglo Rickenbacker 4001 and a tan Fender Precision.
