"The Enabler"
Live cover by Ween
Songwriter(s)Scott Byrne

"The Enabler" is a song that has been played live by Ween; it is originally from bassist Dave Dreiwitz's old band, Instant Death.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

Origin[edit | edit source]

"The Enabler" was written by drummer/vocalist Scott Byrne.[1] Byrne and Dreiwitz (as Instant Death) recorded and released the song as a vinyl single in 1994.[2] A different studio recording was included on Instant Death’s 2002 compilation album New Evil Vibe.[3]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween played "The Enabler" informally during a sound check as early as the Chocolate and Cheese tour, before Dreiwitz was even in the band.[4] It was not until 1999, with Dreiwitz in the band, when they began properly playing the song live, which they have continued to do occasionally ever since.[5]

"The Enabler" has also been played live a number of times by the Dean Ween Group (with Dave Dreiwitz in that band as well); and Gene Ween has even played it a few times at solo acoustic concerts.[5]
