She Caught My Fancy
"She Caught My Fancy" is an unreleased song by Ween. It is a White Pepper outtake.
Song Details[edit | edit source]
Although a demo version of "She Caught My Fancy" appears on The Caesar Demos (which is mostly Quebec demos), it is actually a demo from the White Pepper sessions.
A full studio version was begun during the 1999-2000 recording of White Pepper, but only the instrumental parts were recorded; Gene Ween did not record the vocals because he was asleep at the time, and the song was never finished. This instrumental version of the song is in circulation. Stu Basore, the pedal-steel musician from White Pepper and the 1996 country tour, can be heard playing on the track.
Ween played "She Caught My Fancy" live several times in the summer of 1999, then put it aside for nearly two decades. It was brought back for one performance in 2017.[1]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
A crème de menthe by waterside
On the rocks with the tide
And her hair so golden blonde
She spoke so soft by the candlelight
Like a whisper in the night
Turned her head, she caught my eye
She caught my fancy
And then we strolled by the waterside
On the rocks with the tide
I was hers, she was mine
And when she said she would be my bride
Then I knew deep inside
She was mine, she stole my heart
She caught my fancy
