An early demo version of "Tried and True" was released semi-officially on The Caesar Demos.

Ween played "Tried and True" fairly commonly on the 2003 Quebec tour, and have continued to play it somewhat often since then.[2] One of the earliest live performances, a 7/22/2003 sound-studio performance for a live Internet stream, is found on the album All Request Live.

In addition, "Tried and True" has been played numerous times by Gene Ween at solo acoustic shows. It has also been played by both the Gene Ween Band and the Dean Ween Group.[2]

Lyrics

Official lyrics were printed in the Quebec liner notes:

At the dawn I woke, I was alone, rising
I called upon the force of time and space, calling
And as she came to me I fell back down, realizing
That it's cool for you to love me now, I'm everything

Everything 'cause tried and true, I see the light in you
Can you dig in my soul, could you smell my whole life?

You bent the edge, eclipsed and turned around, aligning
And though the dark sparked rays of violet light, blinding
I went about the job of sowing thoughts and feelings
Some were good, some bad, I felt the cries of healing

'Cause tried and true, I see the light in you
Can you dig in my soul, could you smell my whole life?

Rise my Dawn, you've been awake too long
Let me rest in time while I blow your mind

At the dawn I woke, I was alone, rising
I called upon the force of time and space, calling
And as she came to me I fell back down, realizing
Ah that it's cool for you to love me now, I'm everything

Everything 'cause tried and true, I see the light in you
Can you dig in my soul, could you smell my whole life?
