Recording and Composition

"Mountains and Buffalo" was recorded during sessions for Quebec. The vocals are sung by Gene Ween. The song is listed as being 3:51 on the back cover of the Tried and True / Mountains and Buffalo single, when the song is actually 2:51.

Many iterations were demoed at Graphic Sound Studios, but the band was never satisfied with any of them.[1]

Live Performances

"Mountains and Buffalo" has only been performed live by Ween twice, both times at shows originally billed as Gene Ween solo performances, in the winter of 2002-2003.[2] [3] [4] However, Gene Ween has performed the song many times at solo acoustic shows, as well as with the Gene Ween Band, and his own band Freeman.[5]

Lyrics

A lyric sheet, believed to be typed by Gene Ween, shows the lyrics as follows:

Stars like shrapnel, mountains and buffalo
Capsule lady brought me the motherload
And she'll let me slide like a reedle deedle...

Hey there tulip, fill my glass with sunshine
My legs are numb, but my head feels just fine
Let's cross the line
I want you inside me

Future mana's lead to remind us
Of tears we'll shed in leaving the argus
And we'll wave goodbye like a leeleeleleleleel

Tuck yourself and pull down your right mind
Don't let love lead your disease lime
Just walk the line
And feel me inside you

"12-9-02, North Six, Brooklyn, NY" is handwritten below the typed lyrics.[6] Ween performed this song as part of their set at Northsix (now the Music Hall of Williamsburg) on December 9th, 2002.[7]
