"I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot" is a song by Ween from the 1997 album The Mollusk.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

"I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot" was written and recorded in early 1996 at a rental house in New Hope, Pennsylvania, after Ween's previous rented beach house flooded.[1] The unusual effect on the guitar solo was created by a ring modulator kit ("like a Radio Shack kit"), built for Dean Ween by his guitar tech. Dean has said, "I’ve always been really proud of the solo on that song. It broke, and it was only used on that one song."[2]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Despite being released on 1997's The Mollusk, "I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot" was actually debuted live the previous year on the 12 Golden Country Greats tour with country instrumentation (believe it or not). The regular Ween live band didn't introduce the song until 1999, but thereafter it became a common live song, and has remained so ever since.[3] A 11/7-8/2003 recording from the Quebec tour can be heard on the Live in Chicago album.

In addition, "I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot" has been played separately numerous times by both the Dean Ween Group and the Gene Ween Band.[4]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Official lyrics were printed in the liner notes of The Mollusk album:

I'll be your jonny on the spot
I'll be your jonny on the spot
My daddy died, left me all he's got
I'll be your jonny on the spot

I get up early in the morn
I get up early in the morn
I slop the pigs, momma shucks the corn
I get up early in the morn

I got a chevy with a mopar cam
I got a chevy with a mopar cam
I got a chevy with a mopar cam
I'll be your jonny on the spot

I'm goin' down
I'm goin' down...[5]
