Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

The studio version of "Put the Coke on My Dick" is in the key of F minor, while live performances transpose it down to E minor.

The song was written and recorded during the Mollusk sessions.[1] The studio version has never been officially released, except on the semi-official online album Craters of the Sac in 1999.

The lead vocal on the studio version is sung by drummer Claude Coleman, who actually wrote the lyrics himself on top of an instrumental jam written by Dean Ween. According to Claude, he recorded the vocals in one take because it was wintertime and it was very cold outside where the recording was taking place. He has also said that he played the guitar solo on the song.[2] In 2013 he admitted that he has never actually put cocaine on his penis.[3]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

As on the studio version, Claude Coleman typically sings the lead vocal when the song is performed live, as can be heard on a 7/8/2000 recording on the Live at Stubb's album (from the White Pepper tour).

While not one of their most frequently played songs, it still has usually been played live at least a few times per year since it was debuted in late 1999.[4] It also was a regular part of the Dean Ween Group set in 2015. In addition, Deaner played it once in 2013 billed as "Dean Ween and Friends".[5]
