"Booze Me Up and Get Me High" is a song by Ween. The studio version, an outtake from The Mollusk, has never been officially released, and it is better known as a live song.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

In a October 1996 performance of the song, Dean Ween stated that it was going to be on their next studio album, jokingly referred to as 15 More Golden Country Greats later on in the show.[1] At the following show, he reiterated that their next album (which he calls untitled), was complete and was going to be released in January, and that "Booze Me Up and Get Me High" was to be on it, indicating the song was cut late into The Mollusk's production.

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Booze Me Up and Get Me High" is a blues rock song. The circulating demo version revolves around the chords of A# and F, with key changes towards the end to C major and finally D major. It is unclear if this is the intended key. For live performances, the keys are transposed down to A major, B major, and C# major.

The demo studio recording was probably recorded sometime in 1996, and can be found unofficially as a bootleg. This was one of keyboardist Glenn McClelland's first recording sessions with the band.[2] Dean Ween stated upon releasing this track on the band's website that they had tried four different approaches to the song prior to recording the final version, saying the previous attempts "never seemed rowdy enough". He also commented that they were drunk while recording it.[3]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

"Booze Me Up and Get Me High" first played live on The Country Tour, and was a common live song up until their hiatus.[4] A 7/7/2000 recording from the White Pepper tour can be heard on the Live at Stubb's album, and a 11/8/2003 recording from the Quebec tour is on the DVD version of Live in Chicago.

Ween's last performance of the song was in April of 2011, but the The Dean Ween Group played it several times between 2015 and 2018.[5]
