Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Fingerbangin'" was inspired by a time Dean Ween was driving his son and friends to a birthday party, when one of the kids was bragging about "fingerbanging Cindy-whats-her-name" and "hacking into PayPal," causing Deaner to laugh hard.[1] It was written backstage before a Dean Ween Group show in Hamden, Connecticut on July 17, 2014, and was the opening number.[2] In an interview, Deaner stated "I just said, 'We’re gonna do this song called Fingerbangin’, with a lick that goes like this. We’ll bend up this note, and it’ll be flat and sour.' I just sounded out the song for the guys. Everyone knew what I was going for, and we went out and played it."[3]
"Fingerbangin'" was chosen for the album as Deaner thought it would be funny to have two songs (alongside "Showstopper") with drum solos back-to-back. The studio version includes a saxophone solo and drum solo, unlike the versions performed before the album's release.[3]
