Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"On the Beach" is a surf punk song in the key of C major.
Gene Ween sings the lead vocals, while Dean Ween plays guitar. Atypically for Axis, Gener additionally plays bass[1], and the drums seem to be provided by a drum machine.
At the beginning of the recording, Gener states the final recording was the second take.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
Gonna go to the beach
Gonna lay in the sun
Gonna go surfing
Gonna have lots of fun
Gonna get wet and play in the sand
Hope Mary Jane will hold my hand
Gonna try real hard and make her mine
Oh Mary baby you look so fine
On the beach
Gonna catch some waves
Surf up the storm
Gon' catch lots of waves
And eat lots more
Gonna get wet and play in the sand
Hope Mary Jane will hold my hand
Gonna try real hard and make her mine
Oh Mary baby you look so fine
On the beach
(Mary Jane
You think maybe on
Friday, you can come to the movies with me?
Yeah? Alright!)
Gonna get wet and play in the sand
Hope Mary Jane will hold my hand
Gonna try real hard and make her mine
Oh Mary baby you look so fine
On the beach
