"Loop de Loop" is a song by Ween from the 2001 compilation album SpongeBob SquarePants: Original Theme Highlights

Song Details[edit | edit source]

"Loop de Loop" was featured in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Your Shoe's Untied."[1] This episode, season 2 episode 21a, was first aired on February 17th, 2001.[2] Series creator and showrunner Stephen Hillenburg had contacted the band stating The Mollusk had been a major influence on the show and asked for them to write the song.[3]

"Loop de Loop" was debuted live in 2009 at a Gene Ween solo show.[4] Gene played it twice solo.[5] Ween have played the song infrequently since 2016,[5] with one notable performance being a tribute to Hillenburg (who had passed away due to ALS the previous month) on December 14, 2018, where it was performed in tandem with "Ocean Man".[6]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Want to learn how to tie your shoes?
It's a very easy thing to do
Just sit on down and I'll give you the scoop
What's that? It's called a "loop de loop"
You gotta take a lace in each hand
You go over and under again
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool!

You go over and back, left to right
Loop de loop and you pull 'em tight!
Like bunny ears or a Christmas bow
Lace 'em up and you're ready to go!

You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool

You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
