Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"Eye 2 the Sky" is in the key of C major. Vocals are sung by Gene Ween.

Dean Ween wrote about the song on chocodog.com's audio page:

Muppets in Space--"Keep Your Eye to the Sky"

When we were approached by the people at this movie we flipped. We all grew up with Sesame Street, and the Muppet Show and we'd do just about anything to be involved in a Muppets film. They sent us scripts and pointed out a particular scene where Gonzo is sitting on a rooftop at night staring into space, waiting for the Mothership to pick him up and take him home. We were asked to compose a song based around the idea of "Keep Your Eye 2 the Sky" and we did. About 3 days after we submitted our track, they told us that they had decided to go with an all 70's funk soundtrack instead---a dumb idea in my mind. They then asked us if we wouldn't mind recording a version of "Brick House" instead, a really unoriginal idea better suited for a Burger King commercial. Needless to say, we didn't have any music in the film.[1]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Although it was originally written as a Ween song, they have never performed it live. However, Gene Ween has played the song during solo acoustic shows, mostly in 2010.[2]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Keep your eye to the sky

You are not alone

And if you wish upon a star

You might find you have a home

Far away, in the night

Though it just seems like a dream

Hold on, here they come for me

Keep your mind open

Though they might seem far away

And if you wish hard enough

They might just come home to stay

With me

I can’t wait

I just can’t wait to see

Hold on, here they come for me

Keep your eye to the sky

You are not alone

When I feel like I’m lost

And I haven’t got a home

I look to you, and I know it’s time to go

Take me home

Keep your eye to the sky

You are not alone

When I feel like I’m lost

And I haven’t got a home

I look to you, and I know it’s time to go

Take me home [3]
